Something I did not know.

What major party presidential candidate of the last half-century received a smaller percentage of the popular vote than the thoroughly  landslided George McGovern?

According to Matt Yglesias, it was none other than George W. Bush.

Bush got 37.45 percent of the popular vote — slightly less than George McGovern. Among major party nominees, only William Howard Taft in 1912 turned in a worse performance.

Dubya bids fair to be at the bottom of every historical evaluation ever, do he not?

Deservedly so.

The rest of that Yglesias post is pretty depressing, though.
