That’s the judgment of Rod Dreher of Crunchy Con, a site which identifies itself as being about “conservative politics and religion” after watching the debacle that was Sarah Palin’s interview with Katie Couric:

There are those who believe that seeing this interview on Wednesday morning was the incentive for John McCain’s (phony) suspension of his campaign so he could rush off to Washington and screw up the bailout negotiations. Evidence that the move was entirely political (and disastrous as it turns out) comes from the fact that he has used this tactic before, during the 2000 primary campaign against, um, Cicero.
